   Know, enjoy and participate

Culture Another important goal of the ONCE is to facilitate access to culture in all its manifestations. This takes the form of:

- Bibliographic production. A specialised Centre with two headquarters, one in Madrid and another in Barcelona, is responsible for the publication in Braille, print, audio or electronic format of all types of publications, including literary works, magazines, specialised texts, children’s stories, etc.Small units also exist for the production of teaching manuals in the Educational Resource Centres.

- Theatre and Music. These are cultural activities par excellence, in which workshops are organized and groups are formed. The best performers take part in annual Music or Theatre shows, which alternate each year and are very well received by the general public thanks to their very high quality, in spite of being put on by amateur actors and musicians who combine this activity with their everyday tasks. On the occasion of the "European Year of the Disabled", the ONCE issued a CD entitled 'Written with Music', in which more than 300 disabled artists participated.

- Promotion of Artists. The ONCE also assists blind artists through the aid it offers to foster new creations: blind artists, sculptors, writers, musicians or singers can all benefit from them.

- Typhlological Museum. The only Spanish museum that enables the works of art on exhibition to be experienced by touch was inaugurated in 1992.This museum houses an important collection of models of outstanding monuments and buildings from all over the world.Blind visitors can discover, with their hands, exactly what the EiffelTower, the Kremlin, the Altamira caves or the Royal Palace of Madrid are like. The museum also includes works of art by blind artists and a permanent exhibition room.
