  Rehabilitation techniques

Every year more than 4,000 people in Spain lose their sight either totally or partially.

These people, together with those who are blind from birth, must all undergo a learning process that will allow them to lead a normal life.

Through individual attention, the ONCE takes care of their complete rehabilitation, providing instruction on orientation and mobility techniques, useful everyday skills, making the most of their residual vision, and providing psychosocial assistance not only to the blind but also to those around them so that they learn to accept the loss of vision.

White Cane
Symbol of independence

The white cane is internationally recognized as a symbol of blind people’s achievements and independence.

It is a tool for orientation and mobility and the ONCE provides teaching on its adequate use so that the blind can move safely, efficiently and independently.
