6 - Awarding

The projects shall be assessed by a Committee of Experts comprised of renowned professionals of the different areas within the scope of the announcement, who shall be appointed by the ONCE before 30 September 2006.The Committee may seek the advice of external experts and shall select the project it feels best merits the Award.Among other criteria, the Committee’s decision shall take into account the quality and future feasibility of each project, its utility to improve the living conditions of the blind and visually impaired, as well as the researchers’ scientific credibility.

The Committee may request candidates to submit any further complementary information it may deem necessary.

Any projects that do not meet any of the specific requirements or do not comply with any of the Award’s rules shall be declared as not having been accepted, and their owners shall be duly informed by the Award’s Secretariat.

The General Board of the ONCE designate the winner of this Award during the fourth quarter of 2006 and the winning project will be subsequently announced to the public.The prize will be awarded at an official awards ceremony, which will be broadcast and given the proper publicity.The winning candidates shall undertake to take part in the ceremony on the date it is to be held.

The Award’s Secretariat shall notify each of the candidates of the General Board’s decision, against which an appeal cannot be lodged.The General Board shall also give orders to take any dissemination and publicity actions it may deem suitable.

The Board may also decide not to designate a winner.
